Toughened glass, as the name suggests, is a very strong and durable glass against impact. Toughened glass is difficult to break and even in the event of a breakage, disintegrates into small globules, which are relatively harmless.
The process of toughening does not change the basic characteristics of glass such as light transmission and solar radiant heat. After heat treatment, the surface of a toughened glass has the same resistance to surface damage as that of an annealed glass. Such type of glasses cannot be cut, drilled or altered. Toughened glass is especially designed for use in areas where the risk of contact and breakage is high. It is often used for both exteriors as well as interiors, such as facades, showroom shelves, dividers, shower cabins, doors, etc.
